2008 Charity Gala a Success

Deborah Duncan Singing with Hotcakes

- Villagers Dancing
Village Learning & Achievement Center’s “Embrace the Fusion” gala was a wonderful success thanks to the outpouring of community support and participation. Nearly 350 attendees gathered on Saturday, November 8th at the Crowne Plaza North Houston Greenspoint to attend our fourth annual charity gala. We were extremely pleased with the generosity of those participating, helpingus raise over $10,000 more than last year’s event.
Rick Alspaugh of Alspaugh’s Ace Hardware has been a community leader in supporting our mission and was recognized as this year’s gala honoree. Rick has supported us through donations, fundraising, volunteering, and employing one of our clients. Deborah Duncan of KHOU’s “Great Day Houston” not only emceed the event, but also sang with the band, “Hotcakes,” and danced with the Villagers. Sandra Bulick bravely stood before the crowd and stirred them to laughter and tears as she shared how Village Learning & Achievement Center has helped give her the gift of independence. The Villagers in attendance were the first to the dance floor and warmed it up for everyone else by sharing their favorite dance, “The Cupid Shuffle,” which got everyone in the mood to get moving!
Village Learning & Achievement Center would like to extend a very special thanks to our many sponsors, auction item donors, speakers, and volunteers for their contributions to a successful event. We are very grateful for Danell’s Gifts and Florals for donating the elegant table arrangements and for Thomas Markle Jewelers for donating a beautiful pearl necklace and earring set for the special raffle. We’re looking forward to an equally successful 5th Annual Charity Gala!
