RESIDENTAIL OPTIONS

Village Learning & Achievement Center offers two residential options for our clients – assisted living in our group home at Village at Stoney Glen and apartment living with appropriate supports for clients who are recipients of  Home and Community-Based Services (HCS) funding.  Village Learning & Achievement Center is certified by the TDMHMR Waiver Survey and Certification Office as an HCS program provider.

STEPS TO INDEPENDENCE

Village at Stoney Glen provides independent living opportunities in a beautiful residential setting for adults with disabilities. It is designed for individuals who are taking a major step on the road to independence, moving out of their family home for the first time.  The staff offers support and training in a home-like setting to individuals who have basic self-care skills. Family interaction and participation are welcomed as our residents transition from the family home to greater independence while continuing to live, work, and worship in their own community.

Whether an individual is leaving home for the first time or has lived away from home in the past, Stoney Glen residents are given the proper balance of structure and assistance necessary to help them reach their goals of more independent living.

Village at Stoney Glen is affiliated with Village Learning & Achievement Center, a non-profit organization whose mission is to enable individuals with disabilities to reach their maximum potential.  Residents at Village at Stoney Glen participate in day habilitation activities offered during the week at Village at Plum Valley, conveniently located just one block away.  Supported employment services are available through Employment Advantage.  Transportation, respite, after-school care, and family support services round out the programs available to Village at Stoney Glen residents.

OUTSTANDING FACILITIES

Offering double occupancy rooms, the 8,000 square foot home has 10 large bedrooms with eight full bathrooms. The estate-like residence, built in 2002, includes a large kitchen with an eating area, game room, common living room, laundry facilities, outside patio and large backyard with organic garden.  It has the capacity to house 14 full-time residents, with two additional beds designated for periodic out-of-home respite care.  Each resident is encouraged to express themselves by decorating their bedrooms according to his/her liking.  Village at Stoney Glen is located within walking distance of restaurants, grocery shopping, drug stores and recreational facilities.

SUPPORTIVE ATMOSPHERE

Village at Stoney Glen offers each individual an opportunity to learn skills that will help them gain greater independence.  Three meals a day are provided, and residents assist in cooking and grocery shopping. They also learn to complete personal tasks such as laundry and room cleaning.  The care staff creates a warm and structured family-like environment that encourages residents to work together.  Independence is promoted, but assistance and guidance are provided when needed.  The residential program includes participation at Village Learning & Achievement Center’s nearby day program and vocational training facility.  Employment is encouraged for residents who are able to work in the community and transportation is available.
