Village at Hickory Glen

In 2009, Village Learning & Achievement Center entered into a partnership with the Mental Health & Mental Retardation Authority of Harris County (MHMRA) to provide affordable housing to individuals with disabilities in our community.  MHMRA co-sponsored an application for a Section 811 Grant with us to construct up to 15 housing units designed to provide apartment homes for individuals with disabilities.

Village Learning & Achievement Center secured 3.58 acres of land located in Kingwood in order to build the units in a community setting close to support services which will be provided by the Center.  The building site is located at the corner of Chanay Lane and Hickory Glen Court, minutes away from our Center located on Plum Valley Drive, adjacent to our offices and Village Community Center located on Glade Valley Drive, and just south of Kingwood Park High School.

In 2010, the $1.8 million dollar grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) was approved.  Architects for the project, Jackson & Ryan Architects in Houston, have submitted preliminary architectural renderings for the complex of apartment homes.

Construction is anticipated to begin in September 2011.  The estimated completion date is approximately 10-12 months after construction begins.
