Life Enrichment Children’s Program

A new program has started at Village Learning & Achievement Center. This program, called the Life Enrichment Children’s Program, serves as an before- and after-school childcare program for children, ages 5 to 22, with developmental disabilities. Currently, the program is housed in designated classrooms at the Village Learning & Achievement Center Day Program facility, with future plans to renovate and expand the Village Community Center on Glade Valley Drive for the program.

Parents are comforted in knowing that their children are receiving quality care and specialized activities daily. The program is aimed to help continue the learning process after the school day is over. Each child is given the opportunity to learn skills and to be in a positive atmosphere to develop healthy peer relationships and be a part of an inclusive community. It has been found that children placed in an afterschool program are more socialized and adjust better to different situations.

The curriculum of the Life Enrichment Children’s Program implements the goals and training of the children’s schools and continues these ideas into the afterschool program. The Life Enrichment Children’s Program strives to help teach and enrich participants’ self-help and social skills in a fun and enjoyable atmosphere. One parent explained that “the Life Enrichment Children’s Program has allowed our family more flexibility and less worry, knowing that our child is with like-minded peers and in the hands of caring and trained staff. Equally as important, this program allows our child to continue his education afterschool.”

The Life Enrichment Children’s Program follows the Humble Independent School District calendar. During the school year, the program runs from 2:30 P.M. until 5:30P.M.. During holidays, including Spring Break, Thanksgiving and Winter Break, hours are 8:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M.. During the summer, the program’s hours are from 7:30 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. Currently, ten students are enrolled in the Life Enrichment Children’s Program and space is available.
